Hi.

Welcome to my site. I share my adventures in music, writing, and life. Hope you have a nice visit!

Providence

Providence

Why you should move into commitment!

For over a decade, I have been performing, teaching, and creating music.  I've gotten as far as Sesame Street!  But lately, feeling stuck, I decided to post on my Facebook Music Page (Lori Burke Music) that I'd be interested in sharing my process of music making and to hit me up if you're interested.  Just in that moment, my fellow musician friend Dave sent me this great quote about *providence* written by the author William Hutchinson Murray:

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.  All sorts of things occur to help one that would never have otherwise occurred.  A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way.  I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets:

"Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it.  Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it!" "

I got the biggest chill after reading it, not because it was wonderful, (which it was), but because I'd written a song YEARS AGO based on this exact quote:

"All In You"

Whatever you think or you dream you can

Whatever you dream you can do

Whatever you think or you dream you can

Begin it

It's all in you.

I saw the light

It happened one night

A beautiful scene

I had a dream

Oh one day

You will pray

the answer so clear

Just listen and hear...

Such a simple lyric with but with a BOLD message: JUST DO IT.

Immediately after I read the quote I received a message from a friend who I used to coach volleyball with asking if I'd be able to teach her daughter guitar lessons this year.  And of course I said yes.

All of this took me back to an Indigo Girls song with the line about providence: "....I ask for Providence to smile upon me with it's sweet face..."

I know I will make MANY mistakes on this journey.  I know I need to work on EVERYTHING that has to do with management, time, appointments, etc.  But the music and the heart of sharing and making the world a more beautifully sounding place is my goal.  So won't you join me?  I'll be posting videos about making music and posting songs, stories, and more on my YouTube page.  If you'd like more information from me about music, you can contact me via email or find me on Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube.  My links are at the bottom of the page.  Thanks for your help!
