I teach music to preschoolers age 3-5 at Jack and Jill Preschool in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. It's a private school which has been running successfully for over 40 years. I have been teaching there for the past 6 years. I was very fortunate to be able to teach my own 2 children while they attended.
Each week I teach the students concepts of call and response (Suzuki Method), finger play, creative exploration with instruments (percussion, ukulele, guitar, violin, banjo, mandolin) musical games, as well as songs for our 3 concert performances per year: a Halloween performance in October, a Christmas Concert in December, and a Graduation performance in May.
In addition to the performance schedule, the students and I work through classic nursery rhymes, songs by American songwriters (such as Woody Guthrie), and patriotic songs, as well as old-time traditional songs.
My goal in teaching is to pass on the love of traditional American songs and music throughout the year in my music class.
